It can be understood as Buddhist authored literature, which typically has value for intellectual history, sectarian history, and textual circulation. The value of Buddhist authored literature often lies in preserving the interpretive traditions of particular authors, sects, or periods. Here the readable fascicles of the "Collected Prefaces to the Various Expositions on the Source of Chan, Four Volumes" are gathered in the original catalog order, suitable for consultation by fascicle number, catalog number, Qianziwen volume number, or title.
